In order to save the passengers from standing in a long queue, Indian Railways have introduced the UTS app. Thus, people living in cities which have suburban train network namely Chennai, Mumbai or Delhi can use this app to book local train tickets and save themselves from the hassle of standing in long queues.
UTS or Unreserved Ticketing System allows the passengers to purchase the seats that don't require a reservation in the local trains.
Passengers can purchase the unreserved ticket 3 days in advance for a journey of 200 km or above. Also, they can also purchase unreserved tickets which involve the journey of any distance on the same day. Thus, the UTS app allows people to buy unreserved tickets online. The app is available on online app stores for Android as well as iOS.
UTS allows you to book two types of tickets- paper and paperless tickets.
Paperless tickets: The passengers can book the paperless Journey ticket and they don't need to print them. They can travel with the hard copy of the ticket and when the ticket checking staff asks for the ticket, the passengers can show it through the app.
Paper tickets: The passengers need to book the ticket via the UTS app. The passengers will get a booking ID through SMS. They can also get the details in the booking history and on reaching the source stations, they can print the ticket via an ATVM (automatic ticket vending machine) using the booking ID.
In case the passenger mobile goes out of charge or he is unable to show the ticket online, his journey is considered as Ticketless travel.
