The Indiana Core Assessments English Language Arts exam is a content-area licensing examination that measures the knowledge of candidates seeking to become ELA teachers in Indiana. This is a computer-administered exam containing 100 multiple-choice questions covering four domain areas: reading comprehension and analysis; components and modes of writing; communication and media literacy; and English Language Arts instruction and assessment. The reading comprehension section makes up 45% of the exam, with the writing section covering 30% and communication/media literacy equals 15%. The instruction and assessment domain accounts for the remaining 10%. Candidates have 105 minutes to complete all questions and must attain a score of 220 to pass the exam.
